The email came on Wednesday, asking everyone to set luminaries in front of their homes and businesses between 5:00 and 7:00 on the 14th to honor those lost on Thursday, February 7th. I walked to all the houses on my street Wednesday night, handing out flyers about the event, carrying extra bags and candles if people needed them. Packets of bags and candles were passed out at school yesterday at pick up. Our community was ready.
I carefully put out my luminaries last night, just before 5:00.
As I ran through Kirkwood around 7:30, I saw thousands of them in front of homes, schools and businesses. It was beautiful.
